Specimen cabinets - one of my obsessions
11th-Feb-2010 11:38 pm

Some day I will have a room full of barristers, specimen cabinets, and trophy heads... a mini museum or "silent zoo".

What type of cabinets do all of you use to display your bones/collections ?
How do you display your furs (aside from just hanging them on the wall)?

I love the second cabinet! I recently purchased a curio cabinet from an awesome used furniture store down the street. I've been slowly adding everything. Currently it contains about 65% of my skull collection, my collection of preserved insects, deer antlers, my bottle of human teeth, and a few odds and ends that aren't natural (like vintage baby doll heads and old 1800's photocards). I don't have any furs to display yet. I'd love a piece of zebra if you happen acrossed any more you'd like to sell. I'd probably use it to line a shelf. Boring, I know...

Oh, I also have a small curio that I bought off ebay a long time ago. It contains a partial cat skull, various geodes and shells, a bottle of animal teeth, random feathers that I've found in my yard, grouse legs, two fused vertebra from a deer, and a taxidermied mouse.

I did make a short video of what I've put in my cabinet so far. As soon as I figure out how to upload it, I will share it with you!
